Pentagon confirms that the US is aware of reports about civilian casualties from drone strikes in Kabul.

According to the Pentagon, civilian casualties have been reported in Kabul by the United States following the drone strike against an explosive-laden vehicle heading towards Hamid Karzai International airport.

"We are aware that there have been reports of civilian casualties in the strike on a vehicle at Kabul today," Capt Bill Urban (spokesman for the US Central Command) said.

He said, "We are still assessing and evaluating the results of the strike, which we knew disrupted an imminent ISIS–K threat to the Airport."

Urban stated that the US would be saddened by the loss of innocent lives in the strike.

"We know there were powerful and sustained explosions that followed the vehicle's destruction. This indicates that the vehicle contained a lot of explosive material that could have led to additional casualties. He said that it is not clear what could have happened and that he was continuing to investigate.
