Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the Iraqi Prime Minister, stated that the October 10 legislative elections are the only way to solve the country's problems and urged people to vote for a better tomorrow.
Al-Kadhimi, who was meeting with the electoral commission on Saturday to discuss preparations for the polls, stated that "exactly 29 Days later, early parliamentary elections would be held, which are the only solution to Iraq’s problems," reports Xinhua news agency.
The Prime Minister stated that Iraqi authorities have taken stringent measures to prevent fraud attempts. He also stressed that coordination is taking place to provide an international and UN presence to supervise the elections.
Al-Kadhimi stated that "we urge effective participation in early elections" because our children deserve a better life and a dignified future. He also said that the time has come to ensure that they have a state without corruption and injustice.
In response to protests against corruption, lack of public services and anti-government demonstrations in Iraq, early elections will be held on October 10.
The last parliamentary elections in Iraq took place on May 12, 2018, while the next elections were originally set for 2022.
