Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. On Monday, Stalin announced that E.V. Stalin's birth anniversary as a social reformer was to be celebrated in the legislative Assembly. Ramaswamy Periyar will be observed as the 'Day of Social Justice.
September 17th marks the birth anniversary of the social reformer, who tirelessly fought against many social evils.
All political parties within the Assembly welcomed the Chief Minister's announcement.
Stalin stated that all employees of the state government had to take a vow to respect the principles of self-respect and rationalism on that day.
According to the Chief Minister, it was because of the persistent campaign against social evils by Periyar, that Tamil Nadu developed a culture that questions everything that isn't rational. Periyar, or "Thanthai Periyar", as he was affectionately known, promoted science in the minds and hearts of Tamil Nadu's people.
Stalin stated that Periyar had always supported the rights of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and the first Amendment to the Indian constitution was made in 1951.
S. Duraimurugan, leader of the House and state Water Resources Minister, told the Assembly that Periyar must always be remembered and that his principles of self-respect should be included in textbooks.
Nainar Nagendran, BJP's floor leader, stated that BJP believes in abolishing caste and upholding women's rights.
The leader of the AIADMK Vaithalingam welcomed the statement by Stalin. He said that the AIADMK was for social justice, empowerment women and that Periyar was a great social innovator who should be always remembered and respected.
