New Terminal Building at Kanpur Airport Inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia


 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia are set to inaugurate the new terminal building of Kanpur airport. This state-of-the-art facility, which is significantly larger than the existing terminal, aims to improve connectivity and enhance the passenger experience. It also showcases the culture and heritage of Kanpur, according to a government release.

Enhanced Facilities and Connectivity

The new terminal building at Kanpur's civil enclave spans an area of 6,243 square meters and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 150 crore. With its spacious concessionaire area covering 850 square meters, it offers a wide range of retail and dining options for travelers, ensuring a pleasant experience. The capacity of the terminal has also significantly increased, with the ability to handle 400 passengers during peak hours compared to the existing building's capacity of 50 passengers. Additionally, the terminal provides ample parking facilities with 150 car parking spaces and two bus parking spaces on the city side.

Infrastructure Highlights

The newly developed apron at the airport can accommodate three A-321/B-737 aircraft types. Furthermore, a new link Taxi Track measuring 713m X 23m has been constructed. The terminal features eight check-in counters and three conveyor belts, one in the departure hall and two in the arrival hall, to facilitate efficient passenger processing.

Focus on Sustainability

The new terminal building incorporates various sustainability features to minimize its environmental impact. These include a double insulated roofing system, provision of canopies for energy saving, LED lighting, low heat gain double glazing units, rainwater harvesting for groundwater recharge, water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, and the utilization of recycled water for landscaping. Additionally, a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 KWp has been installed, meeting the criteria for GRIHA-IV ratings—a national green building rating system signifying sustainable development and responsible resource management.

Architectural Design and Interiors

The exterior of the building draws inspiration from the temple architecture of Kanpur's renowned JK Temple. Meanwhile, the interiors reflect various local themes such as textiles, leather industries, and notable figures from the city's history, including poet Shyamlal Gupta and sage Maharishi Valmiki.

The inauguration of the new terminal building at Kanpur airport marks a significant milestone in improving connectivity and enhancing the passenger experience. With its modern facilities, increased capacity, and focus on sustainability, the terminal aims to meet the growing demands of travelers while showcasing the rich culture and heritage of Kanpur.
